Contrary to the precautions taken five years ago, on the eve of three self-determination referendums, Emmanuel Macron ended up taking off his velvet glove in New Caledonia. The president does not want, explains his entourage, “a status quo”. It is time, according to him, to “build” a “new project”, “that of New Caledonia in the Republic”, with a Constitutional revision “at the beginning of 2024”.
