British mining company Emmerson Plc, which has just provided an update on activities during the second quarter of 2024 for its Khemisset potash project in Morocco, indicates that it is still awaiting examination by the United Regional Investment Commission (CRUI). on its update. of the environmental and social impact study (ESIA) optimizing the Khemisset multi-mineral process (KMP).

“The first crop trials have been completed, showing the effectiveness of KMP products as phosphate sources. Additional trials are planned to confirm the benefits of the additional micronutrients in magnesium and iron,” it shows optimistically the company led by Graham Clarke.

In March 2024, the Ministerial Steering Commission invited the company to update its ESIA to incorporate the optimization of KMP’s process changes, including a significant reduction in water consumption and the elimination of the need for dispose of used brine and resubmit it for examination by the CRUI. . The following month Emmerson finalized these updates and resubmitted what he hopes will be the final version of the ESIA.

In June, the company entered into a non-binding, non-exclusive memorandum of understanding with Hexagon Group AG to supply some of the new fertilizer products from KMP. Under these terms Hexagon would take up to 300,000 metric tons of struvite-based products and 50,000 tons per year of vivianite-based products, deliverable from the ports of Casablanca, Jorf Lasfar or Safi.

After filing a patent application for the new KMP processes in the United Kingdom in September 2023, Emmerson also filed an application in Morocco during the second quarter of 2024.

The priority during the third quarter is still to get environmental approval for the project, recalls Emmerson. At the same time, the Company continues its low-cost, high-value testing of KMP, including crop trials, technical workshops and production optimization in Morocco and the United Kingdom.
