A modest and simple ceremony was held for the three-year memorial of Mikis Theodorakis in Galatas, Chania.

At the site, a memorial service took place at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Children’s – Youth Choir “St. Spyridon” from Corfu, which chanted mournful ecclesiastical hymns, stirring emotions among those present.

Flowers were then laid at Mikis’s grave, in the presence of his granddaughter Myrtos Theodorakis, who, moved, stated that she feels that “Mikis never left; he is always here!”

The events were attended by a large crowd, and later the attendees headed to the Theodorakis family home in Galatas.

A political memorial will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the “Mikis Theodorakis” Theatre in the Venetian harbor of Chania, featuring addresses from the organizers, a keynote speech by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and a musical tribute titled “A Dialogue of Crete with the Symphonic Music of Mikis Theodorakis,” with Konstantina Vidalaki on piano.
