Bali Process co-chair Ambassador Lynn Bell (Australia) and Ambassador Tri Thariat (Indonesia) led a delegation led by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masoud Bin Momen and Secretary of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry. Ruhul met with Amin.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (March 19).

In the meeting, the Foreign Secretary highlighted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s firm commitment and zero tolerance policy against human trafficking. He emphasizes the complex and underlying causes of human trafficking and the difficulties and obstacles to combating them.

The Foreign Secretary emphasized on sustainable solutions to the problem of human trafficking and mutual cooperation in this regard.

In the meeting, the Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment informed the delegation about the programs and activities undertaken by development partners and Bangladesh Government for the reintegration of the victims of trafficking into the society.

The Bali Process Co-Chairs termed combating human trafficking as a complex and challenging task and emphasized on strengthening mutual cooperation to combat this problem.

He co-chairs expressed concern over the increase in irregular migration in recent years due to helplessness and despair among forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

The Foreign Secretary called on the member states of the Bali Process to work proactively towards a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis. He said this protracted crisis poses a potential economic, social, environmental and security threat to Bangladesh and poses a threat to the security of the region as a whole.

In addition, the meeting discussed about strengthening social awareness on human trafficking by improving the skills and capabilities of law enforcement agencies and further expanding the mutual cooperation of the member states of the Bali Process.
