Employment: optimism reigns to (re)find a job, despite the caution of companies

Are these two visions that will begin to collide? Maybe, even if it’s still a little early to say. In an exclusive survey carried out online by LinkedIn news in partnership with Le Parisien – Today in France, Internet users show that they have great confidence in the job market. To the question: “When do you think you will find a job?” » (for people in research), the answer is less than three months for 35% of respondents, three to six months for 30% and more than six months for 35%.

“Thinking of having a new job in the next six months shows real optimism,” says Tiffany Blandin data reporter at LinkedIn news, which piloted this study.

90% say they are ready to leave their job if the opportunity arises

“These are hyperbalanced responses,” notes Vincent Binetruy, France director of the Top Employers Institute. For me, it shows that people are a little helpless and don’t really know what tomorrow will bring. Moreover, by talking regularly with HR managers, I sense a certain form of excitement growing in relation to the economic environment for 2024.”

However, through the second question: “Would you be ready to leave your job if an opportunity presented itself? “, given the current context, we once again sense unfailing confidence among LinkedIn members. 40% answered yes without hesitation, 50% yes, after careful consideration, and only 10% no. “Having an overall rate of 90% on the first two is huge. This shows that despite the economic and international situations, our members still believe in their chances, even if we expect a reversal of the situation regarding salaried employment in the coming months, after a very strong increase over the last two years,” continues Tiffany Blandin.

“It’s positive and even reassuring,” analyzes Vincent Binetruy. The responses clearly demonstrate that employees have faith in French companies. May they judge them capable of getting through this complicated period, of overcoming this zone of turbulence. Now I wonder. We notice, particularly among young people — especially those leaving school — that they have not yet understood that the candidate-recruiter power relationship is changing. They have been, or still are, fed the fact that they have the power to choose and decide. But everything is changing and the discourse in schools has not yet integrated it. »

It therefore seems that we are entering a phase in which we are indeed at a crossroads. Especially since growth would be around +0.6% in Europe for 2023 and would be +1.2% for 2024 according to the latest communication from the European Commission. On the one hand, there is always real optimism in the different possibilities of finding a job, changing jobs, or even imposing one’s conditions, and on the other, on the recruiter and human resources department side, a desire to move forward from now on. step by step while being more careful.

Special report: Employment opportunities are there!

Still professions in tension

The latest unemployment figures validate this wait-and-see hypothesis. “In the third quarter of 2023, the number of unemployed as defined by the International Labor Office increases by 64,000 compared to the previous quarter, to 2.3 million people. The unemployment rate thus increases by 0.2 point, to 7.4% of the active population in France (excluding Mayotte). It rises by 0.2 points over one year and returns to its level of the second quarter of 2022,” INSEE wrote in its publication last week.

“This variation is a wavelet. We must not pay attention to it and not create a situation of mistrust which has no reason to exist, believes the director of the Top Employers Institute. If we were at +0.5%, I would say OK, be careful. Now, it is true that for 2024, things will change. Those who have hired a lot in recent years will wait a little longer. No one wants to have to put in place restructuring plans as Alstom has just announced, for example. But above all, the professions which are in tension today will still be in tension tomorrow. We will continue to look for web developers and data analysts in large numbers… That will not change. »

Handicraft and tech professions, opportunities with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, health, cybersecurity and even hotel and catering sectors are still recruiting en masse. Great opportunities to find a new job.

Survey carried out among people registered on LinkedIn from November 7 for the first question (4,133 voters) and from November 10 for the second (9,065 voters), until November 16.
