Member of Parliament Champika Ranavaka has said that there are 57 members of Parliament between the ages of 60 and 90 in Sri Lanka.

However, he pointed out that the total number of parliamentarians below forty years is only 26.

He said that it is the need of the hour to create a background where young men and women can participate freely in politics.

Opportunity for youth

He pointed out that the elders should create this atmosphere for the younger ones.

He said this at a youth meeting held in Bhattaramulla area.

He pointed out that the time has come to give priority to technology and innovation initiatives.

Sampika Ranavaka said that the political representation of women in the country is seen on a very limited basis and steps should be taken to increase this.
