Bogotá D.C., September 8, 2024.- Bogotá was filled with energy and enthusiasm with the Women’s Race in its 2024 edition, which once again took place at the Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park. 17,200 runners participated in this emblematic sporting event, standing out not only for its magnitude but also for its message of female empowerment, the promotion of healthy habits, and the practice of physical activity.

The athletic race, now in its eighth edition, supported by the Bogotá Mayor’s Office and the District Institute of Recreation and Sport (IDRD), featured an inclusive route of 5 kilometers, in addition to elite distances of 10 and 21K, turning the surrounding streets, as usual, into a grand sports festival and an unmissable event on the capital’s runners’ calendar.

In the 21K, Leidy Lozano claimed first place with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 27 seconds. Meanwhile, in the 10 kilometers, Alexandra Aldana took the top position with a record of 36 minutes and 03 seconds.

Daniel García Cañón, director of the IDRD and a participant in the competition, highlighted: “The 2024 Women’s Race has been an example of the power that sports have to promote health and well-being. We applaud the energy and commitment of the participants, demonstrating that Bogotá is an active and healthy city year-round.”

This athletic event is part of a series of major sporting events featured in the 2024 calendar, such as the Billie Jean King Cup in tennis, the current U20 Women’s World Championship, or the Gran Fondo Cycling event that will take place in November.

“Bogotá has consolidated as a benchmark in the organization of world-class sporting events. Our infrastructure, the quality of our venues, along with the enthusiasm and commitment of the people of Bogotá, have allowed us to be the ideal host for high-level competitions. We will continue working to ensure that the city remains a protagonist in the international sports arena, offering high-value experiences to both athletes and fans,” emphasized the director of the entity.

With the support of the 2024 Women’s Race, the IDRD continues to develop its goals within the District Development Plan “Bogotá Camina Segura,” reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to promoting physical activity as a fundamental pillar for citizen well-being and maintaining its intention to continue working towards environments where recreation and sports are accessible to all, thanks to safe and healthy spaces.
