jpnn.com – JAKARTA – The opportunity for an empty box or a single regional head candidate pair to win the 2024 regional elections is equally open.

The difference is, if the empty box wins, the regional election will be repeated.

According to the Research and Program Manager of The Indonesian Institute, Center for Public Policy Research (TII) Arfianto Purbolaksono, the re-election will take a maximum of two years if the empty box wins in many regions.

This is to prepare the administration, logistics, human resources (HR) of general election officers, and to provide an opportunity for the readiness of individual candidates and candidates from political parties.

“For political parties and party coalitions, if the empty box wins, it will be a slap in the face. Therefore, it is important for parties to conduct evaluations, even reforms within political parties to improve their political recruitment,” said Arfianto in his statement in Jakarta, Monday (9/9).

Based on data from the General Election Commission (KPU), there are 41 regions that only have one candidate pair or single candidate in the 2024 Pilkada.

The KPU said the 41 regions consisted of 1 province, 35 districts and 5 cities.

Previously, the Indonesian KPU opened the option to hold a repeat regional election at the end of 2025 if many regions with single candidate participants were won by empty boxes in the 2024 Regional Election.

Arfianto Purbolaksono said that the regional elections would be repeated at the latest in two years if the empty box wins in the 2024 regional elections.
