The Prosecutor’s Office asked this Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Anti-Corruption Judge, Renán Andrade, to Call Danilo Carrera and Hernan Luque to trialand five others prosecuted in the Encuentro case for alleged organized crime.
Prosecutor Luzmila Lluglla said that, based on the elements collected during the investigation, “the existence of the crime is clearly and certainly presumed.”
He also asked that the house arrest measurespreventive detention and search for those involved with the aim of their appearance at a possible trial.
This Tuesday, Lluglla will conclude his speech. Then the defence of the accused will speak. They will argue why their clients should not go to trial.
That decision will be made by Judge Renán Andrade.
The defendants
- Danilo Carrera, brother-in-law of former President Guillermo Lasso
- Hernán Luque, former manager of EMCO
- Gabriel Nain Massuh, businessman
- Antonio Clemente Icaza, former manager of CNEL
- Leonardo Cortazar, businessman
- Karen Cornejo, contractor
- Tatiana Farias, contractor
Carrera, next to the murdered man Ruben Cherresled, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, a structure that committed crimes in order to obtain illegal economic benefits through contracts with public companies.
To achieve this, they counted on Luque in public companies and Icaza in CNEL. These in turn had collaborators with specific roles, such as Leonardo Cortazarwhich operated in the electrical sector, and two female contractors.
