“We are having difficulty with your billing information (…) Please update your information using this form below. Beware if you receive such an email from an email address assigned to Netflix. It is possibly a phishing attempt, or phishing in French. The recent decision to end account sharing with someone who is not part of the subscriber’s household is an opportunity for cybercriminals to multiply attacks, alert UFC-Que-Choose Monday.

The consumer association shared a photo of the fraudulent email. It’s titled “Update Your Billing Information” and impersonates Netflix. “If you click, you don’t land on the platform’s site but on an illicit page. The requested information (identifiers, bank details, identity, etc.) will be stolen from you and may be used for dishonest purposes (theft of money, identity theft, etc.), warns UFC-Que-Choisir.

This type of fraudulent email attributed to Netlfix is currently circulating, UFC-Que-Choisir alert.

How to react if you receive this email

If you receive this message, check the sender first. “A glance at the e-mail address shows that it has no connection with the company”, explains the consumer association, which adds that the few spelling errors also make it possible to determine that it is a scam. UFC-Que-Choisir indicates that the email must be thrown directly into the trash and the sender blocked.

If you have ever been tricked and clicked on the form, here is the procedure to follow: “Oppose your bank card” then “File a complaint at the police station in order to recover any money stolen and report the misdeed on cybermaliciousness .gouv.fr”, details the association.

For its part, Netflix also posted an alert on its site and reminds that it never asks for credit card numbers or passwords by SMS or e-mail.
