While the pension reform acts the abolition of special schemes (for new hires from September 1), not all are called to disappear on the altar of “equity”. Several have been dismissed by the executive.

“Special pension schemes (sailors, Paris Opera, Comédie-Française) as well as autonomous schemes for the liberal professions or agricultural schemes are not covered by this measure”, announced Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne during the presentation of reform.

How did the government sort it out? For the first three, the reason invoked refers to the conditions of exercise of the trades. For the fishermen, “the arduousness and the difficulty are not to be proven”, argued Renaissance MP Charlotte Parmentier-Lecocq during the debates in the Social Affairs Committee. Same thing for the ballerinas of the Opera, whose “conditions wear out the body”.

As for the safeguard of the special regime for the staff of the Comédie-Française, the argument made more than one deputy and senator on the right cough. Regarding the agricultural schemes and the large scheme for the liberal professions (lawyers, notaries, doctors, pharmacists, dentists, midwives, architects, etc.), a completely different consideration prevailed in the arbitrations since each has its own independent pension fund.

Separate treatment also for airline pilots, truck drivers and police officers

Other professionals have also obtained special treatment granted in the name of the arduousness of their profession. Although they will certainly have to work two more years, airline pilots (who left at age 60 at the full rate) have won the maintenance of a premium on their pension between 63 and 65, while truck drivers continue to benefit from their special regime (leave of activity allowing to stop working five years before the legal age) until 2030.

As for the police, in the days following a call to strike (early March), an emergency meeting was held between the Minister of Public Service, the Minister of the Interior and the unions.

Result: police officers but also firefighters, customs officers, and prison officers, i.e. the 700,000 people in active categories, will be able to continue leaving ten years before the legal age (compared to five years in the special regimes) in return for a gradual shift of two years from the age of departure, we learned from the Ministry of the Public Service.

Another bonus, if they leave their job in the active category to work in an administrative position, for example, their acquired benefits (including early departure) are maintained, which was not the case before. “These are the big winners of the reform”, slips a member close to the government.
