New Delhi: The enforcement department conducted raids at about 12 places including the office of the National Herald yesterday. In protest against this, Congress workers protested yesterday with banners in front of the National Herald office.

Young India acquired assets worth Rs 800 crore from AJL, which runs the National Herald magazine. Therefore, the Income Tax Department says that it should be treated as the property of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the shareholders of Young India, and they should pay tax on it. The Enforcement Directorate is probing the alleged financial impropriety in the acquisition of Agel shares by Young India.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi was recently interrogated for 3 days in this regard. More than 100 questions were asked to Sonia Gandhi. Before that, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was interrogated for more than 5 days.

In this case, the Enforcement Department yesterday conducted raids at 12 places where AJL’s assets are located, including the National Herald office in Delhi. Hence it is said that there are chances of freezing of these assets by the enforcement department.

Congress workers gathered in front of Herald House, the press office of National Herald in Delhi yesterday, and staged a protest against the Enforcement Directorate raid. They carried banners and raised slogans against the government. Even as the enforcement department investigated Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress members staged protests across the country.

Regarding the inspection of the enforcement department, the Congress party said, “The government has not been able to answer the questions raised by the opposition parties about inflation and unemployment. So the government is trying to humiliate and intimidate the opposition parties.

Congress spokesperson Syed Naseer Hussain said, “Not only the Congress, many opposition leaders are being harassed by the central investigation agencies. But the Congress party will not surrender to this,” he said.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said, “The raids at Herald House and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg are part of a series of attacks on the Congress party. “We strongly condemn the retaliation against those who speak against the Modi government,” he said.
