In champion. England did not tremble against China. Largely victorious against the Asians (6-1), the European champions finished in first place in group D by achieving a clear round. In the other match of the group, Denmark validated its qualification in eighth against Haiti (2-0).

Already qualified before the match, the “Lionesses” still start the game seriously. Unlike the Americans, they quickly found the fault: served by James with a header, Alessia Russo placed a low shot between the goalkeeper and her right post (4th, 1-0). Enough to fuel a record: this is the 16th consecutive World Cup match where England has scored a goal!

Thanks to a stall from James who relies on Zelem, Russo is well served on the left. The new Arsenal striker rushes towards the surface and looks for Hemp on the opposite side, but an in extremis return from the Chinese defense prevents the 2-0 (13th). A few moments later, however, she did not tremble to deceive the goalkeeper, well served by Bright (26th, 2-0).

The third goal does not wait until halftime. Bronze gets a free kick to the right of the box. Greenwood pretends to roll it up but puts the ball back on James. The Chelsea player applies and places her shot in the opposite side netting (41st, 3-0). She thinks of doubling the bet in stride but the VAR indicates an offside (45th + 3).

A penalty for China

China gives itself the right to believe it in the second half thanks to a penalty. A handover from Yang on a corner hits Bronze’s arm directly. The English player is sanctioned after intervention of the video arbitration. Wang does not hesitate to convert the opportunity (57th, 3-1).

The Chinese seem overexcited by their goal but Lauren James quickly dampens their enthusiasm. She takes over with a millimeter volley a center from Carter which leaves the Chinese goalkeeper on the spot (66th, 4-1). Chinese goalkeeper Zhu Yu offers the next goal by leaving a ball for Kelly, who only has to finish from the right in the empty net (77th, 5-1). Dialy completes the correction (84, 6-1).

The demonstration ends there, as does the competition from China. For the English, go Monday, August 7 for a dangerous round of 16 against Nigeria, which has proven that it knows how to outsmart the best teams.

Denmark find the 8th

The Danes, for their part, did the job against Haiti, a novice in the competition, with goals from Pernille Harder (21st from the penalty spot) and Sanne Troelsgaard (90th + 10).

They put an end to a long series of premature failures: they have not played the last phase of a World Cup since 1995.

The market will be high, next Monday in Sydney, against Australia, which finished Monday at the top of its group after a great success against the Canadians (4-0).
