London: Mohinder K Mita, of Indian descent and a member of the main opposition Labor Party, has been sworn in as mayor of London. She is the first Dalit woman mayor of the London Council.
At Tuesday’s meeting, Mita was elected mayor of West London for 2022-23. Mita won with 2,272 votes.
During the mayoral election campaign, he expressed his views on restoring livelihoods from the corona and transparently changing the functioning of the council.
The Labor Party said in a statement: “We are very proud that Councilor Mohinder Mita has been elected Mayor of London next year.”
Santosh Das, president of the Ambedkar-Buddhist Association in London, said: “She is the first Dalit woman mayor of the United Kingdom. This is a proud moment for us. “
Prior to this, Mohinder K Mita was the Deputy Mayor. The Dalit community in London is celebrating Mita’s election as mayor.
