Signaling, power and communication facilities will be renewed along 96 kilometers

(07/02/2023)

On the one hand, the current electrical telephone block will be replaced by a Single Track Automatic Release Block, replacing the current electrical interlock with a new electronic one, and the signalling, energy and communications installations will be renewed. This action will serve to improve the connection of freight train traffic from the Madrid-Burgos line to the Prado Marina de Aranda de Duero industrial estate and, in addition, it will incorporate advances in rail operation, giving the line more capacity and reliability and greater regularity in circulation.

In addition, the rationalization of the stations and crossing points of this section will be launched. Thanks to this solution, traffic will be able to access Tecno Aranda directly from the main road without going through the Aranda de Duero–Montecillo station.

Removal of phone blocking

In addition to the establishment of a single track Automatic Release Blockade throughout the section of action and the replacement of the Aranda de Duero electrical interlock with an electronic one, other actions will be carried out such as updating the Burgos interlock; replacement of the signs installed on the track by others of the led type with their respective Asfa Digital beacons; installation of new train detection equipment (axle counters) and new electromechanical turnout motors, replacing the manual or kettle ones and the integration of the new interlocking functionalities in the Miranda de Ebro Centralized Traffic Control.

Likewise, an Uninterruptible Power Supply system will be installed in the signaling equipment of the interlocks, fiber optic laying will be carried out and new technical buildings will be built to house Security and Communications Installation rooms, communications, circulation cabinets and/or centers of transformation. These works have been awarded to the consortium formed by Telice and Enyse, for an amount of 12.7 million euros.

Remodeling of stations

Among the actions included in this contract, which goes out to tender for an amount of 1.3 million euros, is the rationalization of the Aranda de Duero-Montecillo station, with the lifting of tracks 3 and 5 -currently decommissioned – and their associated deviations. In addition, a connection will be made between tracks 1 and 5 -currently 1 and 4- of said station, in order to improve its operation and optimize freight traffic.

For its part, at the ‘Bifurcació de Aranda’ installation, the placement of a safety handle track is planned on the Madrid-Burgos line, at its confluence with the Madrid-Hendaye line, as well as the lateral expansion of two sections of the track of the Madrid-Burgos line, in order to allow the fitting of the track device that leads to the 105-meter-long safety handle.

The installation of the GSM-R mobile communications system is underway in this section. The works cover both the deployment of the system and its integration into common facilities.
By eliminating the existing telephone block, the commissioning of the remote control for traffic control from the corresponding Command Post (Miranda de Ebro) requires that there be a GSM-R radiotelephony system on the line, the model chosen by the most of the European railway companies.

The GSM-R offers specific services for the railway and supports the radio transmission systems currently used, including support for the ERTMS level 2 train signaling and protection system. The contract is joint for the installation of the system on the Torralba-Soria route and has a global investment of 9.95 million euros.
