Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia has again suffered discomfort in his right foot, leaving Inter out of the squad for the match against Real Tomayapo on matchday 2 of the Sudamericana.

This is the same problem that he has been suffering from for a month and which prevented him from playing with Ecuador in the friendly matches for the FIFA date in March. Internacional’s medical team issued a statement on Valencia’s injury, stating the following:

“The athlete Enner Valencia suffered a trauma to his right foot during the match against Grêmio. He underwent treatment for the injury. Later, during the first match of the semi-final against Juventude, he ended up having a new trauma in the same region. Despite the pain and swelling, the Football Department decided, together with the athlete, to use him for the second match of the semi-final. This return ended up causing a regression of the condition, so it was necessary to withdraw him so that the player could fully recover. Therefore, Enner will be out of Inter’s next matches. His return is expected only when he has fully recovered from the injury.”

Valencia is expected to return to activity in the first week of May, meaning it would miss the first few days of the 2024 Brasileirao and at least one more date of the Sudamericana (it would not play against Delfín).
