Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sabina Alieva within the framework of the Baku International Ombudsman Forum, met with the Secretary General of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) Debbie Conner.

“It was noted that during the meeting, the Ombudsman spoke about effective cooperation with regional and international organizations, including ENNHRI.

Having informed about the measures taken in Azerbaijan towards the effective protection of human rights and freedoms, the Ombudsman noted that in accordance with the amendments made to the Constitutional Law “On the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, her mandate was expanded to ensure equality, preventing discrimination and a number of other areas.

At the meeting, the importance of the Baku International Ombudsman Forum was emphasized in terms of the impact of problems caused by global climate change on ensuring human rights and ways to solve them, as well as the exchange of positive experience, and the importance of continuing such initiatives was noted.

ENNHRI Secretary General Debbie Kohner, in turn, thanked for the friendly meeting.
