Hollywood and the myth of Ennio Morricone: the 16th “Los Angeles, Italy – Film, Fashion and Art Festival” (April 18-24) will be dedicated to the legendary Maestro, who passed away on 6 July. The special event (as part of the ‘The Italian Masters by Intesa Sanpaolo’ section which also includes the “LA, Italia Legend Award” to Sophia Loren) will involve many friends and fans of the Roman composer, winner of the 2016 Academy Award. all Quincy Jones (who used to call Morricone “Little Brother”), Clint Eastwood (to whom he was linked by experiences in the films with Sergio Leone), Quentin Tarantino who wanted him in his latest film “The Hateful Eight” and gave him the “Star on the Walk of Fame ”together with Pascal Vicedomini, promoter of the initiative).
And then the historical friends and colleagues Tony Renis, Marina Cicogna, Franco Nero, Giuseppe Tornatore, Andrea and Raffaella Leone, together with famous “fans” such as Andrea Griminelli (who will play some Morricone classics), Andrea Bocelli, Amii Stuart and also the Americans Kevin Costner (protagonist of “The Untouchables” by Brian De Palma), Eli Roth. With them many other personalities of Italian and US culture and entertainment alongside the Morricone family: his wife Maria and their children Andrea and Giovanni. Musical performances, messages, stories about the Maestro’s life will accompany the special screening of some “privileged” films from the Morricone soundtrack and today part of the history of cinema.
“Ennio Morricone is an authentic myth everywhere in the world. He is the legend of legends”, declares Tony Renis, honorary president of LA, Italy, for which Morricone wrote a letter to the Academy shortly before his death pleading the attribution of the Governors Award (the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement, the same one received by Lina Wertmuller in 2019). And Ennio Morricone has won many awards, including the Grammy Award and then the Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 2007 (which Clint Eastwood gave him). Not to mention the Nominations, no less than 5 among which, twenty years ago, the one for the soundtrack of “Malena” by Tornatore at work to complete a mega-documentary on his friend “Ennio”.

“LA, Italia 2021”, which traditionally precedes the night of the Oscars, rewards the excellence of Italian cinema, protagonist of the Academy Awards; among them Matteo Garrone and his team for ‘Pinocchio’, the directors Edoardo Ponti, for ‘Life in front of himself’ and Filippo Meneghetti for ‘Due’.
Now in its sixteenth edition, the happening of the most popular Italian cinema and audiovisual in the world is promoted by the Capri Institute in the world with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the support of the MiC (DG Cinema and Audiovisual) and is realized with the participation of Intesa Sanpaolo, Rai Cinema, Rai Com, Rainbow, Medusa, Iervolino Entertainment, Isaia, and the Consulate General of Italy in LA, the Ice and the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles.
