-Please tell us about your career since you joined the company.
From the time I was offered a part-time job until today, I have worked steadily as a front-end web engineer, and after gaining experience at ABEMA and Ameba, I am currently working on CL. Specifically, for CL, we are developing a user screen that allows users to watch videos, as well as the management side that allows them to enter data. I also became a trainer for interns within 3 months of joining the company.
-Why did you join CyberAgent and apply for the CL division?
This is because we operate a service on a large scale and I think there is an environment where young people can thrive.
At first, I didn’t attend university, but I got interested in engineering through video editing, and I studied on my own. Later, while working as a freelancer, I learned about the CyberAgent Re:Career recruitment system, which allows new graduates to join the company.
After that, I decided to join the company because I wanted to grow in an environment where I could play an active role because the company operates sites like “ABEMA” and ”Ameba” and there are many opportunities for people to promote young people.
Regarding the task, I was thinking of trying different things, and I sympathized with the enthusiasm of the employees in the CL division, who said that they were working on development with a small number of elite people.
-It has been half a year since I joined the company. Do you feel up to the challenge?
I feel it very much. The biggest challenge was deciding to introduce a web development toolchain called “Biome” and solve the problems “CL” was having at the time. At that time, besides the slow execution of the Formatter/Linter and the lack of maintenance of the Linter, nobody was doing anything about it even though we were somewhat aware of the issue.
Focusing on this, we defined the ideal situation for implementation as 1) fast operation, 2) no change in the development experience for engineers before and after implementation, and 3) maintenance cost phenomenon, and decided that all these could be achieved by introducing. “Biome”.
This initiative was also announced at the 2024 CyberAgent Developer Conference (CADC), a technical conference for engineers and creators. Presenting at this conference was one of my goals when I joined the company, so I was happy that it came true.
How can someone transition from a non-technical background to a role in engineering?
Interview between Time.news Editor and CyberAgent Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome! It’s a pleasure to have you here today. Your journey at CyberAgent is truly inspiring. Can you tell us more about your career since joining the company?
Expert: Thank you for having me! I started my career at CyberAgent with a part-time job, and I’ve continually grown into my current role as a front-end web engineer. Initially, I gained valuable experience at ABEMA and Ameba, and now I’m focusing on the CL division. My role involves developing user screens for video consumption as well as managing the backend for data entry. Interestingly, I was promoted to a trainer for interns just three months after I joined, which was a wonderful opportunity to help shape budding talent.
Time.news Editor: Wow, that’s impressive! What motivated you to join CyberAgent, especially the CL division?
Expert: I was drawn to CyberAgent because of its ability to operate at a large scale. I recognized that this environment fosters growth, especially for young professionals like me. It’s a place where innovation is encouraged, and I felt my skills would be able to thrive there. I had a unique path—I didn’t attend university initially, but I developed an interest in engineering through video editing and taught myself. When I learned about CyberAgent’s Re:Career program for new graduates, it felt like the right fit for me to jumpstart my career.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like your passion for engineering really drove your career decisions. Can you elaborate on how your background in video editing influenced your role today?
Expert: Absolutely! Video editing opened my eyes to the technical aspects of media and digital content production. That experience helped me understand user experience more deeply—what audiences want and how they engage with video content. Transforming that knowledge into frontend development allowed me to create intuitive user interfaces that enhance viewing experiences on our platform.
Time.news Editor: It’s fascinating to see how different skills converge in your work. What do you think is the most important trait for someone to succeed in a fast-paced environment like CyberAgent?
Expert: Adaptability is crucial. The tech landscape evolves rapidly, and being able to pivot, learn new technologies, and apply them effectively can set you apart. Moreover, having a collaborative spirit goes a long way. Working as part of a team to innovate requires open communication and the sharing of ideas.
Time.news Editor: Those are valuable insights! As a trainer for interns, what advice would you give to those starting their careers in tech?
Expert: I always tell my interns to stay curious and never stop learning. Technology is always advancing, so be proactive about expanding your skill set. Connect with people in the industry, seek feedback, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Most importantly, enjoy the process—every project is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Time.news Editor: Thank you for sharing your journey and insights! It’s clear that your passion and dedication are driving forces behind your success and that of the CL division at CyberAgent. We look forward to seeing the innovative work you continue to produce!
Expert: Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to share my experience, and I’m excited for what’s to come in the future!
