From Saturday 11 December from 6.00 pm the Shazar Gallery hosts Entropy # 8, the first Italian solo show of the Iranian Saghar Daeiri. The exhibition, which has undergone many postponements due to the Covid emergency, presents the new project of the Istanbul-based artist, with paintings on canvas, watercolors on paper and micro-installations that narrate a human and social system close to collapse.

Saghar Daeiri, particularly attentive to the critical and grotesque representation of the society in which she lives, faces the disorder within a system, entropy precisely, through a very personal visual language that deforms the physical image, transforms its features by launching signals of an intimate and collective undoing. The spaces of via Scura welcome destructive elements and destabilizing forces in a closed system, a black hole that intercepts the latent chaos in the social order.

It is the subversion that gives rise to fictitious solutions, salvation itself becomes disorder, while the new order conveys habits that seem destabilized. The characters painted by the Iranian artist crowd ambiguous settings, living at the same time episodes, situations and social postures that result in dramas, in a succession of whirling frenzies with bright and brilliant colors.

The scenes materialize in small installations which, on the one hand offer space for a pictorial continuum, on the other, by changing support, open to different cultural heritage and visual messages rooted in the common imagination. It is precisely the topos that are overturned, the smiles, the postures and the hidden sounds, the connective appendages with the environment that shatter and open to crisis, to total decay.

The tension ends in an imperturbable vortex, where everything stops to end in a single and absolute color, in a hopeless silence.

Saghar Daeiri (born 1985 – Tehran, Iran) Visual artist and researcher, lives and works in Istanbul. Graduated in painting in Tehran, she presented her first solo show at the Azad Art Gallery in 2006, an exhibition in which her works were all sold. Since then he has held 5 more solo shows in Tehran (Azad Art Gallery) and has participated in several group exhibitions around the world (New York, London, Berlin and so on). In 2009 she was invited to participate, with 3 paintings from the “Shopping Malls of Tehran” series, in the exhibition entitled: “Iran Inside-Out” at the Chelsea Modern Art Museum in New York. The exhibition saw the participation of 35 artists who live and work in Iran along with 20 others from the Diaspora. The result is a varied portrait of 55 contemporary Iranian artists who challenge conventional perceptions of Iran and Iranian art. The “Iran Coffee shop” series was also enormously successful and was exhibited in Europe, for example at the Brick Lane Art Gallery in London. In 2012 she emigrated to Turkey due to some sociological limitations in Iran and attended the Master of Arts at the Marmara University in Istanbul. She graduated in 2017. Her first solo show in Turkey in 2019 presented at the Merkur Art Gallery in Istanbul was entitled “Swallow-Kiss-Burn”.

«My paintings – he says – are the representation of my society, of the place where I live and of the critical way in which I perceive it; I grew up in Iran, a country that in the course of its history has gone through very dramatic periods that have influenced the socio-cultural development of people. Above all, as a woman, I criticize, in a grotesque and ironic way, my society because of its strict rules that require us to forget what is happening around it. The main purpose of my works of art is to confront and confront people with a contagious disease made of habit and silence! The modern Middle Eastern endemic lifestyle … shut up, live, consume and stay alive, this is noticeable in women, children, schools and even animals! So my works of art ironically represent people seeking salvation. The prodigal pursuit of happiness which has shown in some as black humor and comedy ».
