Paul Vossen announces the publication of his book “Environment and colonialism”.

“This is an analysis of colonization by France, Great Britain and Belgium during the 19th and 20th centuries. The angle of entry is – and this is unusual – the natural environment: rain, fertility of agricultural land, accessibility of reliefs, navigability of rivers, sunshine, which are very different in Western Europe from those of Africa and from the Middle-East. These differences allow us to understand a little better why one country colonized and the other colonized, why all the colonial powers used very similar strategies, and why the refrain “Belgium was also colonized by the Romans, after everything” does not apply.

But, just as importantly, this approach allows for a counter-narrative that sheds a different but constructive light on controversial topics such as diversity, racism, cultural decolonization, immigration and international solidarity.

The attached leaflet contains some comments from people who have read the book.

I highly recommend this book. This is a different reading of the unsubstantiated information about (de)colonization that we are so often presented with these days. »
