In the midst of the morning rush hour, a group of environmental activists from the organization “Restore Wetlands” took to the Essingeleden in Stockholm to raise awareness about the importance of preserving wetlands.

The group, consisting of 14 courageous individuals, managed to bring traffic to a halt with their bold demonstration. They took to Facebook to inform their followers about their actions, stating, “14 brave people have stopped traffic with their bodies.”

Promptly at 8 o’clock, the activists successfully changed the carriageway, causing disruption to the flow of vehicles. Daniel Wikdahl, spokesperson for the police, commented on the situation, saying, “There are ten to fifteen people at the on-ramp in the northbound direction.”

While the police managed to keep traffic moving slowly, 15 individuals were ultimately arrested for their participation in the demonstration.

Videos from the scene captured the sounds of honking horns from trucks and other vehicles caught in the traffic chaos caused by the activists. “It is on the highway that the major resistance takes place,” highlighted Restore Wetlands on Facebook.

The group remains determined to continue their efforts, promising further actions in the future. “We will go out again and again,” they stated.

In a press release, the police confirmed that all activists had been removed from the scene by 08:35, restoring normal traffic flow on Essingeleden.

The actions of Restore Wetlands shed light on the urgent need to protect and restore wetlands, which play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance and biodiversity of our planet.
