The goal of opening the fund is to support families who have not only gone through the painful experience of losing a loved one, but are also caring for a child or children with various types of disabilities. A bereaved parent must deal with the loss of a loved one while caring for the children. This situation is stressful and emotionally draining, especially if she is raising a disabled child who requires special care.

In some cases, a parent has to leave work to take care of the child full-time, which can have a significant impact on the family’s financial situation. “The care and upbringing of a child with a medical disadvantage is very demanding for the entire family. If one of the parents dies, or even both parents, and such an orphaned child is cared for by a foster parent in kinship foster care, such care is doubly demanding.” explains Jitka Pražáková, executive director of the EP Corporate Group Foundation.

In this situation, it is important to provide support and help to the bereaved family. The fund for disabled children is intended for families who are already in the program for bereaved families and care for a child or children with physical, mental, visual and hearing disabilities, combined disabilities or mental illness. The EP Corporate Group Foundation provides these families with financial resources according to the child’s degree of dependency. These funds can help the family with expenses related to the child’s medical condition, such as medication, rehabilitation and other special care.
