Epic Christmas victory to reach the semifinals

by time news

BarcelonaRafa Nadal is synonymous with epic, especially in Grand Slam matches. The Manacor tennis player, despite playing with abdominal pain and going to tow for most of the match, was able to qualify for the semifinals of the Wimbledon tournament. A very long match that was resolved in four and a half hours, five sets and one tie break final (3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 i 7-6).

North American Taylor Fritz had the victory in his fingers and came to stay to win in the fourth set and fifth. Nadal, the player who seems to perform better under pressure, saved the blow both times and then imposed one of his characteristic traits: mental strength. As soon as Fritz began to hesitate, Nadal put one more gear to end the match.

Nadal played with discomfort from the first set, and had to stop the game in the second leg, but that was no impediment for him to maintain his undefeated status in the Grand Slam tournaments this season (19-0), after winning in Australia and Roland Garros.

Kyrgios, rival a semifinals

The next challenge for Christmas will be the semi-finals – which will be played for the eighth time at the All England Club – in which they will face Nick Kyrgios. The Australian qualified by defeating Cristian Garin by the fast track (6-4, 6-3 and 7-6).
