Epidemiological surveillance is maintained in cases of Monkeypox, Covid-19 and Dengue – Ministry of Public Health

During the last session developed by the Emergency Operations Committee (COE), the Minister of Public Health, José Ruales, presented an epidemiological analysis on the situation of cases of Covid-19, monkeypox and dengue.

Ruales pointed out that during the last two weeks there was a decrease in Covid-19 cases, however, he recommended the voluntary use of masks in open and closed spaces where distancing is complex.

The Minister of Health explained that there are 656 cases of Covid-19 in the country. He also mentioned that the morbidity level is low. «We observe a sustained reduction in all provinces; the positivity of antigen and PCR tests has also decreased and remains between 8 and 10% respectively ”.

In reference to monkeypox, he reported that Ecuador registers 7 new cases with this infection and that the first phase of vaccination began with health professionals, in March 2023 vaccination will continue for the key population with high risk of contagion.

Regarding the dengue situation, at the moment, there are 3 serious cases in the province of Guayas, 5 in Manabí, 4 in Esmeraldas and 1 in Los Ríos, all under observation and without deaths from this cause.
