The sanctification of the waters in the rivers, ports and lakes of Epirus took place with splendor, with time proving to be an ally and allowing a large number of people, locals and visitors, to attend the ceremonies organized by municipalities and communities.

A pole of attraction for many this year was the ceremony at the stone bridge of Aoos in Konitsa, where for the first time the consecration of the waters took place. Ten swimmers, some in full body suits, dove into the river to grab the cross, with the temperature outside at 11 degrees. The cross was caught by 19-year-old Dimitris Karakounos from Athens, who was in Konitsa for a few days’ vacation and dived for the first time.
In the Municipality of Zagori, the central event took place at the bridge of Camper-Aga on the Zagoritiko River, in Miliotades. Christos Siarabis and his 13-year-old daughter Ioanna fell together for the cross, who was the one who pulled him out of the icy waters.
In the Municipality of Dodoni, the consecration of the waters took place in Lake Viros, at the sources of the Louros River in Vouliasta. Two siblings, a boy and a girl, fell into the waters of the lake to catch the cross.
With enough people, but without anyone diving into the waters of Arachthos this year, the consecration of the waters took place at the bridge of Plaka, in an event organized by the Municipality of North Tzoumerko and the communities of Monolithi and Raftanai.
The scene is similar at the legendary Bridge of Arta, where Metropolitan Artis Kallinikos performed the traditional immersion of the Holy Cross, in the Arachthos River, without anyone daring to fall into the water.
In the port of Preveza, nine brave swimmers dived to catch the Cross, which was thrown into the sea, in the port, by the Metropolitan of Nicopolis and Preveza Mr. Chrysostomos. It is worth noting that the throwing of the cross was done from the platform, which was set up on the waterfront, and not from the boat, since the weather conditions did not allow it. The lucky one was 18-year-old Michalis Rammos, who is currently serving his military service .
The consecration of the waters was also celebrated in the old port of Igoumenitsa. As every year, several swimmers, including a woman, dived into the waters of the bay of Igoumenitsa to retrieve the Cross. Giorgos Mitsinakis was the one who took the cross, receiving the blessings of the Metropolitan. Serapion, who officiated at the ceremony.
