EPL Happy New Year to Manchester, smashing Wolves into the top four

Manchester: Manchester United did not play superstar Marcus Rashford in the starting eleven due to disciplinary action and finally Rashford himself had to come out to save Manchester United against Wolves. Manchester United returned to the top four on points after beating Wolves 1-0 in a New Year’s Eve clash in the English Premier League.

United were unable to open their account in the first half when Alejandro Garnacho missed a golden chance. Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa brilliantly saved Garnacho’s goal-bound shot from Nelson Semedo’s defensive error. Casemiro’s header was then deflected wide and Anthony Martial missed a close-range chance to keep United goalless in the first half.

Wolves star Ruben Neves’ free-kick at the start of the second half left coach Erik ten Haag staring back at the memories of embarrassing him on his knees in front of Wolves at Old Trafford earlier this year when David Gea palmed away. With this, the coach brought on Rashford, United’s top scorer in the league, in the second half.

Rashford scored the winning goal with 14 minutes left to take his tally for the season to 10. This is United’s third win in a row. With the win, United leapfrogged Tottenham into fourth place. Tottenham face Aston Villa tomorrow on New Year’s Day. Coach Eric Tenhaag took disciplinary action against Rashford for not being on time for a team meeting due to falling asleep.
