“Morocco is the EU’s strategic partner and a close neighbour. I highly appreciate the statement of HM King Mohammed VI in favour of building relations with Spain in particular and with the European Union in general, based on trust, transparency, mutual respect and shared benefits in the interest of the peoples of Morocco and the EU,” the Bulgarian MEP said in a tweet.
Spain and the European Union reacted positively on Saturday to Morocco’s wish to strengthen relations with neighboring countries, also calling for consolidating ties with the Kingdom.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the content of HM King Mohammed VI’s speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, calling for strong, constructive and balanced relations, particularly with neighboring countries.
In his speech, the Sovereign stressed that Morocco wishes, with sincere optimism, to continue working with the Spanish government and its president, Pedro Sanchez, in order to inaugurate “an unprecedented stage” in relations between the two neighboring countries.
These relations, HM the King specified, must be based on trust, transparency, mutual consideration and respect for commitments.
