The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that contacts are continuing with the aim of finding a “just” peace between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish TRT television reported today.

“We have brought the two sides together in Turkey several times. We can do it again and open the door to peace by managing a process focused on finding a solution without outside influences,” Erdogan told reporters on the plane on his way back from yesterday’s visit to Egypt.

“In our meetings with both President (Russia’s Volodymyr) Putin and President (Ukraine’s Volodymyr) Zelensky, we continue our efforts to achieve the goal. We have emphasized from the beginning that a just peace is better than war and we aim to take all our steps with this understanding,” Erdogan pointed out.

The Turkish president also said that Turkey and the United States are finding agreement on more and more issues, marking a positive trend in relations after the sale of US F-16 fighter jets to Turkey moved forward, Turkish media reported, cited by Reuters.

“The number of issues on which we think alike or agree with the US is increasing,” Erdoğan commented.

“There is no negative trend at the moment, on the contrary, there is a positive development,” he also said, commenting on Turkey’s approval of Sweden’s candidacy for NATO and the progress in the purchase of American F-16 aircraft from Turkey, BTA reported.
