Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, after a meeting with Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, announced at a joint press conference his readiness to restore the Gaza Strip with the support of Cairo.

As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, EFE reports this.

“In the medium term, we are ready to restore the Gaza Strip in cooperation with Egypt,” he said

In addition, Erdogan said that “the population of the Gaza Strip should not be expelled” and supported the position of Egypt, which, in an effort to stop the flow of refugees to the Sinai Peninsula, seriously strengthened the border with the enclave: created a five-kilometer buffer zone, erected concrete walls on the surface and underground .

The Turkish leader criticized Israel’s plans to attack the city of Rafah on the enclave’s border with Egypt and called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “abandon the policy of massacres in Rafah.”

The Turkish president also said his country had received about 700 Palestinian refugees who had arrived through Egypt to provide them with medical care, adding that he was “determined” to strengthen relations with Cairo at all levels.

El-Sisi thanked Turkey for sending humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian leader also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip “to allow the peace process to resume as soon as possible.”

This was Erdogan’s first visit to Egypt in 12 years.
