Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today called on the United Nations to impose an arms embargo on Israel, which he says is an “effective solution” to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, reports AFP.
The head of state stated this in a press release published at the end of a several-hour meeting in Istanbul with the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the statement, “Israel seeks provocations to spread the conflict in the region (…). An arms embargo imposed on Israel by the United Nations would be an effective solution to end Israeli aggression.”
Turkey’s head of state also expressed satisfaction with the fact that “the face of the South Caucasus is changing towards lasting peace” after today’s meeting of the 3+3 platform, which was attended by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his four counterparts from Russia, Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan – Sergey Lavrov, Abbas Aragchi, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov.
No details were released about the content of the talks, BTA writes.
