Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a decisive fight against speculators who are harming the tourism industry for personal profit. Addressing the nation after a cabinet meeting, he expressed hope that Turkey will achieve $60 billion in tourism revenue by the end of 2024. The​ announcement was made ⁣by TRT Haber TV channel, ⁣as reported by Day.Az, citing TASS.

“Speculators are the‌ greatest enemies of⁣ our country,” Erdogan said. “Building a strong reputation and trust takes time and effort, but it can be easily shattered by greed and ‍the pursuit of quick profit. ​This damage is long-term and affects ​not only ⁣the tourism sector, but also the millions of people who work in it. I‌ hope we can overcome these obstacles and promote the development of the tourism⁣ industry.”

According to Erdogan, tourist arrivals in Turkey since the ‌beginning of the year​ have reached 26.1 million, a 14% ​increase‍ from⁢ the previous year. ‌Tourism revenue is also growing steadily. Erdogan expressed confidence that they will achieve their target of​ $60 billion ⁢in tourism revenue by the end of the year.

In 2023, approximately 56.7 million ⁢tourists visited ‍Turkey, with Russian citizens comprising the largest group‍ (6.3 million). By the end of 2024, Turkey expects to welcome 60‍ million tourists and generate $60 billion in tourism revenue, as previously announced by local authorities.
