Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for a decisive fight against speculators who are harming the tourism industry for personal profit. Addressing the nation after a cabinet meeting, he expressed hope that Turkey will achieve $60 billion in tourism revenue by the end of 2024. The announcement was made by TRT Haber TV channel, as reported by Day.Az, citing TASS.
“Speculators are the greatest enemies of our country,” Erdogan said. “Building a strong reputation and trust takes time and effort, but it can be easily shattered by greed and the pursuit of quick profit. This damage is long-term and affects not only the tourism sector, but also the millions of people who work in it. I hope we can overcome these obstacles and promote the development of the tourism industry.”
According to Erdogan, tourist arrivals in Turkey since the beginning of the year have reached 26.1 million, a 14% increase from the previous year. Tourism revenue is also growing steadily. Erdogan expressed confidence that they will achieve their target of $60 billion in tourism revenue by the end of the year.
In 2023, approximately 56.7 million tourists visited Turkey, with Russian citizens comprising the largest group (6.3 million). By the end of 2024, Turkey expects to welcome 60 million tourists and generate $60 billion in tourism revenue, as previously announced by local authorities.
