Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has filed a lawsuit against an opposition lawmaker he called a “snob,” Turkish media reported.

Due to his comments on social media, MP Tuncay Özkan from the country’s largest opposition force, the People’s Republican Party (NRP), has been sued for 250,000 Turkish lira (€6,580) in damages.

Yesterday, Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced on the X social network that the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Izmir, from where Yozkan was elected as a deputy, started an investigation against him for insulting and slandering the country’s president on social networks, BTA writes.

“The insolent and ugly expressions against our president, who was elected by the votes of our beloved people and who works day and night to serve the country and our people, can never be accepted,” the justice minister wrote in X and categorically condemned the “rude and immoral words” of the deputy from Izmir.

Hurriyet Daily News recalls that Özkan published his comment in X after President Erdogan called the leaders of the Turkish People’s Liberation Army “elitists addicted to ostentation” during a speech in the eastern district of Bitlis.

“Ah, you snob! You stay in the palace, you sit on the throne, you play with the dollars and billions, extravagance and extravagance are your companions, the rich are your friends, do you call us ‘display addicts,'” the deputy wrote. “You , palace snob! We want early elections. I dare!” concludes the post quoted by Dicken.

Erdogan’s lawyer announced that the president has also filed a claim for compensation in the amount of 250,000 Turkish lira against Özkan, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
