The controversy continues to swell and leads, this time, the Minister of Justice in its wake. After the verbalization of a topless woman in Aurillac for “sexual exhibition”, a demonstration took place in this commune of Cantal on the sidelines of which degradations of the court were committed. Éric Dupond-Moretti therefore went to Aurillac on Monday. And this Tuesday, the Society of Journalists (SDJ) of BFMTV was moved by the minister’s remarks. The SDJ of the media “condemns” his remarks which it considers “inappropriate”. While admitting that the minister pointed out “that the people present around him were not topless, meaning that respect for the law was therefore the norm”, the entourage of the Keeper of the Seals adds however that the second part of the sentence was a response to one of the reporters.
The latter would have launched “it is perhaps not hot enough”, to which the minister would have replied “ah it is not hot enough? It suits you to say that, you are a man. “The Minister regrets that while a court nearly burned from floor to ceiling and that since his appointment, his determination to fight against all types of sexual and gender-based violence is total, remarks have been taken out of context to lend him intentions which are not his, ”adds the entourage of the Keeper of the Seals.
From a topless stroll to a social debate
Last Wednesday, during the 36th edition of the Street Theater Festival, a young woman was stopped by the police while she was walking topless in the streets of Aurillac. Explaining that she had wanted to do “like half the men” that day, in the face of the heat, she was however fined for “sexual exhibition”. Following this event, more than a thousand people gathered on Saturday in this city of Cantal to show their support.
Most of the protesters were shirtless. On the sidelines of the mobilization, the judicial court of Aurillac was degraded, involving the Minister of Justice on the spot Monday afternoon. The events have led to the return of a social debate: that of the double standard on nudity. Because if sexual exhibition is well punished by law (one year’s imprisonment and a fine of 15,000 euros), the Penal Code does not specify whether the breasts are of a sexual nature.
