Eric Granado beats the Moto3 in Catalonia with the new electric Ducati

The Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya has hosted this week the last pre-season test for MotoE riderswho have enjoyed perfect weather conditions to tune up their new Ducati V21L, the electric machine that is making its debut in the championship this year, replacing the Energica EGO Corsa.

As already happened in the first test in Jerez, most of the riders in the electric class of the Motorcycle World Championship have been able to improve on their previous records thanks to the potential of the V21La prototype that, unlike the Energica, does not derive from any production model, and that is palpable on the track.

The test has lasted three days, from Monday to Wednesday, and on each day a total of five sessions of 15 minutes duration eachspacing out the track outings to be able to recharge the batteries of the Ducati between sessions.

The fastest in the combined time table has been, once again, Eric Granado; the Brazilian signed a best lap in 1:47.221 that improved, and by far, the previous MotoE record on the Montmeló track that Fermín Aldeguer registered in 2021 (1’50.399), already placing himself below the best Moto3 (here the lap record is 1’47.597). Behind Granado finished the two Pons Racing 40 drivers, Nicholas Spinelli (2nd) and Matthias Casadei (3º).

“I am satisfied with the work we have done in the Barcelona test”, summed up Granado. “I felt good on the bike from day one, we have been testing different setups to get as much information as possible, and we have found our base to start the season.”

The last day of the test saw the 18 pilots present at the test complete a seven lap race test. The start was similar to that of a grand prix, with all the drivers lining up on the grid and with the traffic light dictating the start of the test.

The winner was Spinelliand he also did it with a remarkable margin of 2.9 seconds over Randy Krummenacher (2nd), who beat the Italian by thousandths Casadei (3rd) on the same finish line. The best of ours was Hector Garzowho finished fourth after fighting with Krummenacher and Casadei.

With the Catalunya test, MotoE puts an end to its preseason preparation just over a month before the start of the championship in France, at the Le Mans Circuit, with two races scheduled for the weekend of May 13 and 14.
