FC Köln Pursues Danish Midfielder Silas Andersen, Potential Eric Martel Departure Looms

Köln is reportedly on the verge of a significant transfer move, potentially securing Danish midfielder Silas Andersen while simultaneously preparing for the possible departure of key player Eric Martel.

Köln officials have openly expressed their desire for further squad reinforcement, even ahead of their recent match against Wolfsburg. “We are still looking,” stated head coach Lukas Kwasniok on Wednesday. “To be honest, we wouldn’t mind if something happened.” Sporting director Thomas Kessler echoed this sentiment on Friday, confirming ongoing discussions and the possibility of a deal before the transfer window closes.

According to a report from Tipsbladet.dk, the club has already submitted a €4 million offer for Silas Andersen, the 21-year-old defensive midfielder from BK Häcken (Sweden). However, the Swedish club has reportedly rejected the bid, currently unwilling to sanction a winter transfer.

Andersen, a Danish U21 international, is described as a creative playmaker, goal threat, and a strong aerial presence due to his 1.90-meter stature. He has made 26 appearances in the Swedish league this season, scoring twice and providing two assists, and also featured in the 2025 Conference League and Europa League qualifying rounds. His contract with BK Häcken extends through 2028, and while his official market value is listed at €1 million, interest from other clubs – including Copenhagen – suggests his true worth is considerably higher.

Eric Martel’s role at FC Köln has recently diminished.

Is Andersen’s Arrival Contingent on Martel’s Exit?

The pursuit of Andersen strongly suggests that Köln is bracing for the potential loss of Eric Martel, whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Contract extension talks, initially expected to yield results this winter, have apparently stalled. Has Martel already decided against a future with the club?

Recent developments indicate a shift in Martel’s standing within the team. Previously a mainstay in midfield, the 23-year-old was recently relegated to the bench by Kwasniok during the match against Freiburg. Kwasniok recently acknowledged that a further addition to the squad could be accompanied by a departure, fueling speculation about Martel’s future.

A swift acquisition of Andersen would become even more crucial should Martel leave. However, sporting director Kessler may be limited to the existing €4 million offer. Köln may need to explore a loan deal with a purchase option for the summer to secure Andersen’s services.
