Search of cars at the Lamotte-Beuvron tollbooth, in the Loir-et-Cher, roads blocked, helicopter flight over the area, filtering as you approach the village of Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre where you come across a police car at every street corner… Who turned this peaceful corner of Sologne into an entrenched camp? A pack of dogs mutinying against the practice of hunting with hounds? A pastry insurgent demanding the overthrow of the local specialty tarte tatin? A presidential visit? None of this: it is the arrival of Eric Zemmour, whose every trip is now accompanied by calls to demonstrate from parties, unions and associations. “Many Enemies, Much Honor”, replied the leader of the Reconquest! party, quoting a slogan of the fascist regime of Benito Mussolini – “Molti nemici, molto onore”. The formula, popularized by the Duce and engraved by the regime at the Foro Italico in Rome, was attributed before him to the Germanic captain Georg von Frundsberg, in the 16th century.

The debauchery of the police can be explained: the previous weekend, a signing session by Eric Zemmour in Brest was the target of anti-fascist demonstrators who attacked the bookstore and participants. This time, the big hundred demonstrators will have, more wisely, spent the morning talking about ways to fight against the far right in the shade of the park of the church of Pierrefitte-sur-Saultre. The baker had never seen so many people on a Saturday morning. A few flags of the New People’s Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and the New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA), the CGT and Solidaires, as well as feminist and environmental associations, are flying. And this sign, planted in the grass: “The scavengers are out… And it stinks. »

Ah! As everything was simpler for Guillaume Peltier, the organizer, when he organized a “violet festival”, which was intended to be the rallying point of the right. Security was not a problem, he invited future Macronist ministers (Bruno Le Maire, Damien Abad) and was elected deputy of Loir-et-Cher thanks to the label Les Républicains (LR), of which he was vice-president . At the time, spectators sat on bales of straw and people talked about rurality, work, purchasing power, the middle classes; the incarnations of the “strong right” tapped on socialist and then macronist power. In 2023, after having made a return to ideological sources – he had started in the ranks of the far right, in the National Youth Front – and lost his seat as deputy, Guillaume Peltier and Reconquête talk about “save France” of “great replacement” and bludgeon… the right.
