JAKARTA – Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir is included in the top three vice presidential candidates (cawapres) in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres). Based on the latest findings from the Indonesian Political Indicators (IPI) agency, the electability of the General Chair of PSSI competes with seasoned politicians such as the Governor of West Java (Jabar) Ridwan Kamil and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno.

Erick Thohir is in third place with 11.8%. While Ridwan Kamil was in first place with 19.7% electability and Sandiaga Uno 18.4%.

“The difference is not too big, not much difference, especially in the top names, Ridwan, Sandi, and Erick,” said IPI Executive Director, Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Friday (21/4/2023).

The results show that Erick Thohir has increased by one position from the results of the previous IPI survey. In the results of the previous survey, Erick Thohir competed with the Ketum of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), in fourth and third positions. However, after two months, Erick Thohir managed to overtake AHY in the third position on the IPI version of the cawapres exchange.

Burhanuddin explained that the increase in electability by the former President of Inter Milan could not be separated from his success in dampening the dynamics in the world of Indonesian football. Indonesia is threatened by FIFA’s tough sanctions following the revocation of host status for the U-20 World Cup. Thanks to Erick Thohir’s negotiating skills, FIFA finally only gave Indonesia light sanctions. This has become one of the successes of Erick Thohir’s leadership at PSSI, thereby providing electoral incentives to the IPI version of the cawapres exchange.

“There is an electoral effect for Erick Thohir as vice presidential candidate. As a vice presidential candidate, it turns out that there are electoral incentives related to his efforts as Ketum PSSI,” said Burhanuddin.

For your information, in the latest survey from IPI which was released last Wednesday (19/4/2023) last week, the random digit dialing (RDD) method was used. RDD is a technique of selecting a sample through a random telephone number generation process.

Using the RDD technique, a sample of 1,212 respondents was selected through a random telephone number generation process, validation and screening. The survey’s margin of error is estimated at 2.9% at a 95% confidence level, assuming simple random sampling.
