jpnn.com – JAKARTA – PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir responded to Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) who complained about the busy schedule for the 2024 AFF Cup.
It is known that STY submitted this complaint before the match against Laos which was played on Thursday (12/12).
The coach from South Korea assessed the schedule between group stage matches with a gap of three days using the format home-away not very ideal.
Shin Tae-yong suggested that this format be changed immediately. In this case, the group stage format was returned to the previous 2016 edition which used a home tournament system.
Responding to these complaints, Erick Thohir reminded STY not to talk too much and not to complain too much.
“Don’t talk too much, don’t complain too much, let’s just focus. We focus on the program that we have agreed to,” said Erick when met by media crew after the 2024 PSSI Partner Summit at the Park Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (16/12).
Erick actually had other thoughts. In the modern era of football, he knows very well that a busy schedule is a scary threat for a team because it has the potential to experience fatigue which can lead to injury.
Therefore, Erick asked Shin not to complain too much because when participating in a tournament there must be a target and Indonesia’s target in the 2024 AFF Cup is to mature their young players before competing in more prestigious tournaments in the future.
The following is PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir’s statement addressed to Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong alias STY.
