What the BBC broadcast

A cargo ship was attacked off Yemen and damaged, it was reported on Wednesday (03/06) in another apparent attack in the Gulf of Aden.

According to what was reported earlier by BBC, followed by reports of an explosion 100 kilometers southwest of Aden. Nearby vessels reported a loud bang and a large cloud of smoke, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

Yemen’s Houthi movement, which has been attacking merchant shipping in the region, has yet to comment on the attack. The Iran-backed group says these attacks are a sign of support for the Palestinians in the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Both marine safety company Ambrey and UKMTO reported that the merchant ship had been hit and damaged. Rescue operations were underway and some of the ship’s crew had already boarded lifeboats, Ambrey said, while an Indian Navy ship was in the area.

Shortly before the incident, the Barbados-flagged cargo ship True Confidence had been told by a group calling itself the “Yemen navy” to change course, according to Ambrey.
