Escalation of the conflict in Ukraine: “We are already in the gears”

While the conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been raging for a year, the prospects for peace are more uncertain than ever, despite a “peace plan” presented by China.

This is at least the opinion shared by the former military intelligence officer, Simon Leduc, during his appearance on the program “Le Bilan”.

This famous “peace plan”, could in fact be only a facade.

“In the Kremlin, what came out was that they never talked about peace,” he explains. China has a lot of concerns because the United States has opened four bases in the Philippines, it has quadrupled its personnel in Taiwan, and so the Chinese see American expansion and feel threatened.”

The United States would also have a head start on China, given that it is able to test its military equipment in Ukraine.

“The Chinese have not yet tested their military equipment, and in my opinion they will start to do so,” said the expert.

At the same time, politicians on both sides of the conflict are exchanging statements that place nations even more in their corner.

“If you look at the speeches everywhere this afternoon through all the channels, it’s autocracy versus democracy,” he said. That’s where we’re going.”

Mr. Leduc is therefore struggling to see who will really bring about a discussion about peace.

“The structures that could lead us to peace are politicians and diplomats and they are the ones who are the most aggressive right now,” he said. Politics paints you in a corner, and then it’s seen by the other side as being intransigent.”

“There is no politician in the major NATO countries who has done military service,” he continues. They don’t know war. Their relationship to the war is romanticized. And so those who know the war wonder where we are going. We are already in gear. When Biden has positioned himself that no matter the cost he will bear Ukraine, it is all his political element that we see.

It would be impossible, therefore, to know if or when the red line of a world war will be crossed in the eyes of Russia.

“It’s not us who will decide the red line,” says the former soldier. The red line may already be crossed. It is the Russians who will decide it. We have no idea what will happen. That’s the big issue. We don’t know where it’s going.”
