The Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá, is one step away from getting CC OO and CSIF to call off the first general strike in the history of Social Security, which they announced last week. Throughout the weekend, his department has been working on a text that incorporates the great demands of the unions, among which is the immediate incorporation of 2,500 temporary workers that allow the bottleneck that exists to access an appointment to be unblocked. face-to-face in an office and “restore a quality service to the public”. Subsequently, these positions will be offered for public employment and the ministry also undertakes to review internal promotion processes to reduce syllabi, accumulate exercises, decentralize tests and apply all current regulations.

Likewise, the Social Security Administration Agency will be created immediately, which will integrate all the organizations under a single structure, which will allow optimizing resources and streamlining management processes, according to sources from the negotiation confirmed to this newspaper.

UGT, which had distanced itself from the strike call, has already given its approval to this agreement that it will sign this Tuesday at the delegated table. CC OO and CSIF have approached positions throughout this weekend and, except for last-minute changes, they hope to also be able to ratify the text that the ministry has sent them, although they will not call off the strikes until they confirm that it includes all their requests.

A day of teleworking and bonuses

The preliminary agreement reached will allow Social Security workers to telework one day a week from July 1, “provided that their tasks are susceptible to it, on a voluntary basis and guaranteeing the adequate provision of the public service, especially attention to the citizenry”, according to the text to which this newspaper has had access. In addition, it establishes that, once the operation of this measure has been reviewed, as of January 1, 2024, two days of remote work per week may be implemented, under the same conditions.

Escrivá also undertakes to implement throughout this year “performance incentive measures” given the pending workload that these public employees bear.
