Police officers responded to reports of loud bangs at the central station on Tuesday shortly after 6 p.m. Authorities suspect sharp shooting may have occurred based on evidence found at the scene and witness testimonies. Police spokesperson Dennis Johansson Strömberg stated that gathering information and talking to witnesses was crucial at this point. At 9 p.m., the police announced the arrest of five individuals, with one charged with serious weapons offenses and attempted murder, while the others are accused of aiding and abetting attempted murder. Train services were partly affected during the incident. The police could not confirm if the event was linked to the shooting outside Eskilstuna high school or any other violent incidents in the area, but they are thoroughly investigating the matter and exploring possible connections with other events.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, several police officers alerted about loud bangs at the central station and several police officers rushed to the scene.
– We think we are quite sure that it was sharp shooting that occurred. It is partly about the signs we found at the scene and partly about the testimonies we have heard, says police spokesperson Dennis Johansson Strömberg to TT.
He continues:
– We have cordoned off the crime scene and are working on gathering information. Now it is of great importance to get as much information as possible early on and talk to witnesses.
At 9 p.m the police announced that five people had been arrested. One of them is suspected of serious weapons offenses and attempted murder. The others are suspected of aiding and abetting attempted murder.
Train traffic was affected to some extent due to the incident.
Last Thursday a man in his 20s was shot to death outside a high school in Eskilstuna where he was also a student. The police cannot yet answer whether Tuesday’s incident is connected to the shooting outside the school or other acts of violence in Eskilstuna.
“The preliminary investigation is being investigated extensively and the police are reviewing possible connections to other events,” the police write on their website.
