It was Dagsavisen that first reported the news.
Eide announces on Facebook that he will not run for re-election for the Oslo Labour Party in the next parliamentary term.
On Friday, he informed the nomination committee of the party that he is putting his parliamentary work on hold.
“I am very grateful for having been entrusted with this role for two terms, and I have greatly benefited from the experience from the Storting in my work as a minister,” he writes.

The nomination committee of the Oslo Labour Party was convened on Thursday, and they asked the previous candidates to indicate whether they would like to run again for the next term, according to the committee’s leader Rina Mariann Hansen.
Who will take over for Eide on the nomination list will be announced on November 26.
Wants to continue as minister
However, he emphasizes that he would like to continue as a minister “if the party desires it.”
“At the same time, the Oslo Labour Party has a number of talents that should now be given the opportunity to try their hand at key political positions,” he continues.
Espen Barth Eide was first elected to the Storting in 2017 for the Oslo Labour Party but has held ministerial positions several times previously.
In the Stoltenberg government, Eide served as both Minister of Defense and Minister of Foreign Affairs. In 2023, Eide again took over as Minister of Foreign Affairs after having been the Minister of Climate and Environment in the Støre government.
To Dagsavisen, Eide states that this should not be interpreted as dissatisfaction with the government.
– On the contrary. That is why I am clear that I am not leaving politics.
