London: A British citizen has been sentenced to prison for spying in the embassy office. David Smith, a 58-year-old from Paisley, Scotland, was sentenced to 13 years in prison. David Smith, who worked as a security guard at the British Embassy in Berlin, was found to have spied for Russia. In 2020, David Smith spied for Russia while working as a security guard at the British Embassy in Berlin. David Smith was convicted by a British court after it was found that he had leaked information including a letter from the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

After he was caught with the CCTV footage, he was charged with sedition and the trial began. More evidence was found during the unlocking of his system. He had also leaked cabinet information. David Smith has also been found to have leaked details including home addresses and phone numbers of many people in the military and defence. He has also handed over pictures of the relatives of prominent people in the military and defense sector. He kept these pictures on a USB drive called ‘Berlin Holiday Pics New’. When all this was discovered, the trial was conducted on charges of treason. After the trial was finally found guilty, the British court sentenced David Smith to prison.
