Essonne: four men arrested for transporting SUVs stolen in France to Africa

Several months of investigation, day and night surveillance, until this dragnet at the beginning of October. Investigators from the Essonne departmental security (SD) carried out a search targeting a possible network of conveyors of stolen SUVs, intended for the African market.

The affair starts at the beginning of the year. The BAC (anti-crime brigade) of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois spots a vehicle reported stolen in an Arpajon parking lot, as detailed by our colleagues from Figaro. A surveillance operation begins. She leads the police to the port of Gennevilliers (Hauts-de-Seine), where a group of individuals bring this SUV back… to load it in a container. Destination: Le Havre in Seine-Maritime, then Senegal.

Two of the suspects taken into custody

The SD 91 police officers, who took over the case, spent several days watching for the same comings and goings to the port of Gennevilliers. Each time, stylish SUVs are placed in containers, heading for Africa. “All had been reported stolen in Île-de-France, and as far as the Marne,” reports a police source. They were in good condition, ready to be sold for nice sums. » The police intercept several containers before the big departure. Seven SUVs were seized and returned to the owners.

Then the investigations allow us to trace this network of conveyors. With, in the center, a 57-year-old suspect based in the Paris region. He allegedly set up this traffic with three accomplices, aged around twenty. One of them has since been imprisoned for other charges.

The four men were finally arrested at the beginning of October in Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-d’Oise. The quartet was then brought before the Évry-Courcouronnes court, before being presented for immediate appearance. A delay was requested to prepare their defense. The hearing will be held next December. In the meantime, two of the four suspects have been taken into custody.
