Deputy Minister Esteban Torres has emphasized that the Government will not allow the complaint against Valentina Centeno to move forward, nor will it allow the political trials directed against the foreign minister and the Minister of the Interior.

Torres, from the Ministry of Government, has denounced what he considers to be persecution by the National Assembly towards executive officials and legislators from the ADN party.

Torres has pointed out that for the first time in parliamentary history, secretaries and deputy secretaries have been removed from all the committees chaired by government members of the legislature. In addition, he has mentioned that there is a specific persecution against Valentina Centeno, head of the parliamentary group, who faces accusations of improperly using the facilities and symbols of the National Assembly for activities not related to her position.

The deputy minister has considered the complaint against Centeno illogical, arguing that the statements made by the assemblywoman about alleged actions in parliament should not be grounds for sanctioning her.

Regarding the impeachment proceedings against Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld and Interior Minister Mónica Palencia, Torres said that these proceedings seek to undermine the government and harm international processes in which the State is involved.

Regarding the change in legislative escorts, Torres has stated that it is the Government’s prerogative to renew these escorts, denying that this decision is a reprisal. He insists that any change in security personnel is made in compliance with the corresponding functions, and not as an act of deliberate hostility.
