The Senate environmental group challenged on Thursday a decision rendered the day before by the office of the upper house which considered that accusations of moral harassment against Senator Esther Benbassa were “not established”.

A Mediapart survey in 2021 had reported acts of harassment, in particular against eight former employees.

The senator was expelled from the environmental group in September 2021 and left the Europe Écologie-les Verts (EELV) party a few months later.

Environmentalists call for “sanctions”

Wednesday, at the end of its meeting, the office of the Senate indicated that it considered that “the existence of acts of harassment had not been established and that there was no need to follow up on this report” .

The environmental group denounces Thursday in a press release an “incomprehensible decision and asks the Senate office “to review its decision and impose sanctions”, ensuring that the facts have, on the contrary, “been duly established”.

Asked by AFP, the presidency of the Senate did not wish to react. The senator was unreachable.

Again questioned Wednesday in an article by MediapartEsther Benbassa was pleased to have been “cleared” by the office of the Senate.
