The President of the Supreme Court Esther Hayut spoke this evening (Tuesday) at the ceremony of awarding letters of appointment, and referred to the expected reforms in the judicial system after the swearing in of the new government. In her words, she called for maintaining the independence of the courts, and said that she “believes in the robustness of the system”.
“Our loyalty as judges is to the entire Israeli public, and to each and every one of the individuals who make it up. But our mission as loyalists to the entire public cannot be realized without the preservation of the fundamental principles, which are the lifeblood of any judicial authority in a democratic country,” Hayut said. “I mean independence and judicial independence – both at the personal level and at the institutional level.”
She also said that “our system with its judges, officials and employees, works with great dedication and from a deep sense of mission. Therefore, I believe with all my heart in the resilience of our system, and today’s event is another opportunity to once again express my deep appreciation to all of you for your daily work in public service, and The recognition for those of you who, in addition to the judicial role, also took on management roles as presidents and vice presidents.”
