The Balticconnector gas pipeline, which connects Finland and Estonia, was damaged from outside, such actions can be regarded as an attack on NATO infrastructure. A corresponding statement was made by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.

“This is not an environmental accident. This can be considered an attack on NATO infrastructure,” Foreign Policy magazine cited the words of the minister, who visited Washington on an official visit this week, Day.Az reports, citing TASS.

The question of what constitutes an attack on NATO infrastructure was previously raised by Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in connection with the Nord Stream explosions. Stoltenberg noted that NATO must decide whether an attack, for example on submarine cables, would trigger Article 5 of the Washington Treaty on the collective defense of the alliance. In an interview with The Washington Post, Stoltenberg emphasized that attacks on underwater infrastructure are “easy to deny” because they are “difficult to track.”
